- BIOGRAPHY
Some later lore, by some regarded as a fabrication, has made this historical Guterre a descendant of an alleged lineage of leaders of the Christians in Muslim-held Coimbra, and that family lore has started to call them, presumably incorrectly, as Counts of Coimbra. The lore has made a supposed Sisebert (whom myth claims to have been son of a king) as first leader in Coimbra and the forefather of this alleged lineage.
There is no near contemporary support for the existence of any of these Coimbra leaders, and therefore they should be regarded as mythical characters and their lineage should be regarded as sort of tribal myth. No historical documentation attests to any existence of Counts in Coimbra in the 700s and early 800s.
There is no near contemporary support for anything about the parentage of this Guterre. He appears as insignificant compared to his sons, but he is a historical forefather of a remarkable family.
